April Webster and Nathan, the UK’s youngest parents at 14

In 2010, April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne made headlines as Britain’s youngest parents. At just 14 years old, they welcomed their son Jamie into the world, a moment that sparked national debate and media frenzy. But what became of the young couple and their baby after the spotlight faded?

April and Nathan’s journey began at St Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales, where they met as classmates. Their young romance took a serious turn when April Webster became pregnant at 13, just one day before her 14th birthday.

She hadn’t told her parents about the relationship out of embarrassment. The couple admitted to not using protection after Nathan didn’t like how contraceptives felt. This decision would change their lives forever.

Nathan’s parents, Julie and Ron, initially reacted with anger. Ron recalled scolding Nathan harshly, but ultimately, the family chose to support the baby. “We can’t undo what’s happened and will now accept Jamie into our family,” he said at the time.

April’s mother, Maria, 36, was also shocked but gave her daughter the choice to go through with the pregnancy. Once Jamie was born, both families rallied to help the young parents adjust to their new lives.

Jamie arrived in November 2010 via an emergency cesarean. Weighing 8 lbs 14oz, he faced medical complications due to a malformed oesophagus, which made feeding difficult. Thankfully, after surgery and 11 days in the hospital, he recovered and went home healthy.

April and Jamie lived with her family, sharing a room with her 17-year-old sister, Robyn, who helped with bottle-feeding. Nathan stayed with his parents nearby.

Despite the challenges, April Webster was determined to be a good mother“He wasn’t planned, but I’m going to be a great mum,” she said. Nathan expressed a wish to be involved and proposed a shared custody arrangement.

However, their relationship was uncertain. April revealed they were in a “cooling off period” and didn’t know if they would stay together.

By April 2014, April and Nathan had broken up. April shared that they were no longer in contact and had gone their separate ways. “There are no regrets,” she said.

April Webster didn’t complete her GCSEs and focused on raising Jamie full-time. “Everything is going amazingly with him,” she said, with hopes of returning to school when he was older.

Today, April Webster is known as April Lianna and is a proud mother of three: Jamie Rhys, Rowan David, and Ava Lianne. Now 28, she is in a happy relationship with her partner, Jake Jones, and continues to share glimpses of her family life on social media.

Nathan, too, has built a fulfilling life. He got engaged to his partner, Samantha, in 2023 and is raising several children of his own.

Teen pregnancy is often met with judgment and doubt, but April and Nathan’s story shows a different side. Despite a difficult start, both have created happy and stable lives for themselves and their children.

Their journey proves that with family support and determination, it’s possible to turn a tough beginning into a meaningful future.
